Our 4th Daddy's Big Heart Fund raiser this past weekend at Roach Bros in West Roxbury was a blessing and success. Many people touched our hearts with their own stories and gifts of giving.
One older man who was homeless, pushing all his belongings in a cart, went into the store to redeem two bags of cans he had collected from all over the city. He came back out and counted out $5.00 in change, which took him over an hour to do so. He told us, "I just want to give, I just want to give." Boston Strong.
One young lady in her 40s shared with us of her successful liver transplant and how well she was doing. She shared that she had also been living with HIV since 1986. She said her family used to fight and be at odds with each other most of the time — now they are close and loving due to her situation. She said, "Isn't it funny how sickness and trials can bring a family close together?" She said, "I only have $20.00 to give and pray that Markel gets his heart and recovers from this ordeal." Boston Strong.
One lady, upon going into the store, dropped $1.00 in the jar without saying a word. After her shopping, she took her groceries to her car, read the article we passed out, came back, gave us a hug, then put a big bill in the jar, and said, "I will be praying for you." Boston Strong.
Many families told us their personal stories of living with all types of transplants and surgeries. We were blessed and touched by the angels who stopped by our booth that weekend. Boston Strong.
As of this date, Dad is still recovering from brain surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is doing remarkably well with the ultimate hope that a suitable heart will also become available for his much needed and long-awaited heart transplant. With our strong faith in God and the belief that He can do any and all things, we continue our quest for a new heart for Dad, even as he has had to go through another ordeal in his life.
We Endeavor to Persevere.
We thank you for your prayers and for your support.
